Wholesale Broadband Standardization Masterclass: Changing the Way Providers Interoperate in the Wholesale Broadband Market

Why do we even need standards?

For everyone who joined Dominik Pacewicz, our VP of Product Marketing, at the Reinvent IT for Growth Masterclass at DTW Ignite 2026 in Copenhagen, the answer is clear.

Wholesale broadband providers are stuck.

Many can’t properly support open-access networking. Every partner connection is its own custom integration job; onboarding takes too long, and processes are still manual in too many places. And customers feel it—their experience changes depending on which provider is in the chain.

Industry standards, such as TM Forum’s, underlie solutions that fix those problems.

Unpacking the Big Question

On 25th June, Dominik shared the stage with experts from Vodafone UK, Huawei, Covalense Digital, Gauvi, Vodacom Group, Tata Consultancy Services, and TM Forum in a Masterclass moderated by Joann O’Brien. The question on the table was this: How do you scale effectively, unlock new growth, and stay competitive in an increasingly interconnected digital ecosystem?

Dominik’s answer built on three years of close industry collaboration with companies such as TIM, Telstra, Vodafone, AT&T, BT Group, Netcracker, and T-Mobile on TM Forum Wholesale Broadband Catalyst. Together, they developed a set of TM Forum Open APIs specialized for wholesale broadband, a standard product and service model, defined processes providers can actually follow, and proposed updates to TM Forum’s ODA components.

Who’s Already Using It

As Dominik put it: “Standards only matter if they work in the real world.”

Following up on that thought, and to illustrate how this project is not a theoretical standardization exercise but brings tangible early results, Dominik introduced early adopters who are already putting it to work:

  • Vodafone UK that is rebuilding its partner integration architecture around the TMF Wholesale Broadband Standard
  • CityFibre, which has embedded it into its core, using the Product Model to speed up partner time-to-market and raise the bar on end-user experience
  • Fiberhub, owned by a group of Norwegian network operators, including Lyse, that is building a national Wholesale Broadband Marketplace on the same standard, with more Norwegian providers set to come on board in 2026

Why It’s Worth Doing

A few reasons: faster onboarding, fewer one-off integrations, and a customer experience that doesn’t fall apart when a service requires multi-provider cooperation. Looking ahead, it also means an AI-ready setup, built for intelligent, autonomous operations.

All of that is at providers’ reach, thanks to the joint effort of standardization. But the work isn’t finished.

The team’s now moving into product and service modeling for harder, higher-value scenarios, and collecting real use cases to test the standard against.
